EPISODE THIRTY-FIVE: Tested Temperaments

After the sun set, the air got quite a bit cooler... and so did the atmosphere surrounding TRITHAL and Danika soon after the departure of the fake Nashira and her entourage.

After the phony Nashira and her entourage left the scene, TRITHAL turned back to Danika to discover she had a hurt/upset look on her face.

TRITHAL: "Danika, what's the matter?"

Danika (almost tearfully): "How could you say such terrible things?"

TRITHAL (confused): "What? What did I say?"

Danika (now in tears): "You are a fucking asshole, Tsutaru!"

TRITHAL: "Now hang on a second! What the hell is your problem, Danika?"

Danika (crying): "Get away from me!"

Danika walks away and sits down next to the campfire, still crying.

TRITHAL (mildly irritated): "Fine. Whatever."

TRITHAL walks away from the scene, not sure why his wife is so upset. Anri, who watched the whole scene, decides to take matters in her own hands and gets up to go after TRITHAL.

THRAX: "Wait, Anri! Where are you going?"

Anri: "I'm gonna go give that fucker a piece of my mind!"

AXEM: "You don't want to do that... You'll be sorry!!"

Anri: "Shut up, you whore monger!"

Anri leaves the scene. AXEM now has a "damn, that girl is crazy" look on his face. Then, in an effort to use his 'natural ability' on the upset Danika, AXEM approaches her and tries to calm her down. In response, Danika flashes a "come any closer and I'll slice your codpiece off" look with her glowing-green eyes. Deciding to play it safe, AXEM backs away and leaves Danika alone.

Anri finally catches up to TRITHAL, who is sitting on a rock next to the lake in a clearing, smoking the rest of the bowl that was in his pipe in the last episode... with the full moon shining making it somewhat possible to see.

Anri: "You truly are an asshole, Trithal-san!"

TRITHAL: "What the hell is this, females hate on Trithal day?"

Anri: "Danika is really upset right now!"

TRITHAL; "Naw, ya think?"

Anri: "You really should be more careful about what you say to her from now on. She's feeling really sensitive since -- "

Anri stops herself after realizing she's said too much.

TRITHAL: "Since what? What has got her so upset now?"

Anri lets out a sigh, then says, "Look, she made me promise not to tell you this... but she's pregnant."

Not believing what he just heard, TRITHAL responds, "... what?"

Anri: "Danika is carrying your child, Trithal Tsutaru."

TRITHAL sits there and thinks for a second then says, "Why didn't she want you to tell me? And, why didn't she tell me this herself? I think I have a right to know about something like this."

Anri: "She said that it would distract you from our mission, and could cause you to lose focus in battle. She went on to say that, given your narrow attention span and one-track mind at times, that would be costly."

TRITHAL stands up, paces around for a second, then uses his elemental power to shatter the rock he was sitting on, then starts to walk away from the site.

Anri: "Wait! Where are you going?"

TRITHAL responds by saying a phrase in a language Anri doesn't understand, then harnesses his wind power and flash-steps away to the south. Anri is confused for a moment, then realizes the magnitude of what she just did. She turns and slowly heads back to the campsite.

Back at the campsite, the party members sit around in silence, allowing Danika her space. Soon, Anri walks back to camp with a guilty look on her face.

Kuta: "I guess that didn't go too well..."

AXEM: "Where's Trithal?"

Anri: "He left." (to Danika): "Danika, I've done a terrible thing."

Danika: "What?"

Anri: "I told him what you told me not to tell him."

Danika (growing pissed): "You did WHAT?! How could you do something that stupid?!"

Anri (growing teary-eyed): "I'm sorry! I didn't know he was gonna react that way!"

Kuta: "What did you tell him that was so bad?"

Danika: "She told him that I'm pregnant."

Adeth: "Woah, really? That's awesome! Congratulations!"

Danika (in a pissed off, yet appreciative tone): "Yeah, well Thanks, Adeth."

AXEM: "Well, where did he go?"

Anri: "I don't know. I asked him where he was going, and he said something in some weird language, then took off to the south. Oh God, I'm so sorry, Danika!"

THRAX (pissed): "Goddamnit, Anri! Whenever Trithal gets pissed off like he was earlier, it's best just to leave him alone and let him cool off. Now, you probably got him too pissed to think straight! Don't you realize that we have a deadline? We can't afford for these dramatic scenes to be eating up time that we could be using to find the Dragon Crystals!"

AXEM: "Yeah... Now we gotta wait for Trithal and Danika to make up before we can keep going uninhibited, since we don't know where he is, and we can't just leave Danika here to wait for him by herself! You really blew it this time, Anri!"

With this constant verbal bashing, Anri is now weeping sorrowfully. Kuta stands up and comes to her rescue.

Kuta: "OK, that's enough. Leave her alone for now, guys."

THRAX: "Why the hell do you care about this, Kuta? This has nothing to do with you!"

With his fierce eyes glowing red, Kuta says to THRAX in a stern voice, and also telepathically, "I said, that's enough, Thrax!"

Feeling the force of Kuta's immense power inside his skull, THRAX obediently backs down as Kuta takes Anri aside to console her. THRAX turns away, totally pissed at Anri for fucking up the general situation to such a spectacular degree.

After Anri and Kuta left the scene, Danika's pissed-off mood had turned into worry... not knowing where her husband disappeared to... or what he will say when he returns. AXEM tries again to console her.

AXEM (to Danika): "Try not to worry so much. I'm sure Trithal will be back soon."

Danika: "What makes you think that?"

AXEM: "Trithal isn't the kind of person who would just up and bail on his friends... unlike some poonch-fuckers around here who shall remain nameless..."

THRAX gives AXEM the finger for that remark.

AXEM: "... and I'm positive he wouldn't just leave you here to worry about him. I'm sure as soon as he has things sorted out and his head back on straight, he'll be back before you know it."

Danika: "God, I feel so terrible... getting all worked-up over something so stupid! I've probably hurt him more than he's hurt me."

AXEM: "Trithal's not the type who would hold a grudge -- wait, I take that back... he is the type to hold a grudge -- but not over something as trivial as this... especially not against you! When he gets back, the two of you will work it out and go on being happy again. I'm sure of it."

Danika: "Thanks, Axem. That makes me feel a little better."

AXEM: "Don't mention it! Whatever I can do to help."

Throughout the conversation, AXEM was inching closer to Danika, to where he's almost right next to her. He tried to put his arm around her, but Danika stops him, saying, "Come any closer and you're dead."

AXEM immediately backs away. THRAX chuckles at AXEM's failed attempt.

The night went on. As the temperature dropped, everyone withdrew their sleeping bags and curled up next to the fire... with Danika by herself, and Kuta and Anri next to each other. Danika tried to stay awake until TRITHAL returned, but the warmth of her sleeping bag in contrast to the cold outside lulled her into slumber around midnight.
