NENGO 327年11月15日 11:30 PM - 46 Days until Culmination
As the party sleeps soundly on the boat as it's docked in Olgamar Bay... we pan over to Okremafort, in the mountains of Okreman Territory. There, we see many dragons and such roaming the streets, doing whatever it is draconians do in Okremafort at 30 minutes 'till midnight. The camera zooms in on a building in the middle of town, and dissolves to a shot of the inside.
Inside the building, there are several draconians gathered inside discussing and conversing among themselves. At a podium at one end of the room, one of the draconians raises his hand and shouts, "HEY! LISTEN UP!!"
The rest of the room falls silent as the speaker continues:
Speaker: "First, I want to thank all of you for coming in on such short notice. As you all are already aware, King Midus of Mount Sabretooth intends to annex Ghon-Ki prefecture at the start of the 328th year of Nengo, which is about 45 days from now. When this occurs, Midus will have control of Ghon-Ki's vast army, which will certainly disrupt the balance of power in the Land of Fantasy."
The audience murmurs amongst themselves for a second before the speaker continues:
Speaker: Now, for the reason I called you here. It has come to my attention that Midus has deployed a detachment of his own military to head this way to see what's going on. This could mean that he intends to launch a strike against us once he gains control of Ghon-Ki's army. I have sent a detachment of our own forces led by General Earnest to go camp out on Rygog island and attempt to intercept Midus's soldiers --"
-----
Jeremy: "Phuh! 'Earnest goes to camp!' Silly!"
Evil Ray: "That was your idea, Jeremy!"
Speaker: "Hey fuckers! Quit interrupting! Can't you see I'm trying to conduct a meeting?"
Jeremy: "Sorry Vankar!"
-----
Vankar: "-- And, if possible, find out exactly what Midus is up to. While we wait to hear from General Earnest, I need the rest of you to get your squads together and be ready to move out in a moment's notice. I have a feeling Midus is gonna try something stupid - like 'attack us here before we attack them there'. We're not gonna let that moron do something that stupid, are we?"
Audience: "NO!"
Vankar: "Are we gonna let Midus' regime of ignorance take over the Land of Fantasy?"
Audience: "HELL NO!!"
Vankar: "Good! I'm counting on all of you to keep that from happening!"
Audience (chanting): "Hail Vankar! Down with Midus!"
The audience continued cheering and chanting as the meeting continued.
=========================
Meanwhile, back at the Mountain Castle, King Midus paces back and forth in his study. A messenger has just delivered a letter that carries disappointing news. Midus picks up his phone and calls his attendants.
Midus: "Wake up the Minister of Defense and send him to my chambers immediately!"
About a half hour later, Defense Minister Dick Peters, dressed in PJ's, enters Midus's study.
Midus: "Took you long enough!"
Peters (yawns, stretches): "Sorry, your majesty. What can I do for you tonight?"
Midus: "I just got word from Ali over in Tanchi City. Apparently her prefectural council has denied my request for military assistance."
Peters: "That makes 3 denials. The only prefect we haven't heard from is the Amanushi of Kureganu. Do you think he'll say yes?"
Midus: "Who's to say? Out of all 5 of the United Prefectures, the military of Kureganu is the smallest. What angers me is that, even though we've established this commonwealth which has unified our governments, we're still bound by the provisions of the Nengo treaty.... especially the part that says 'Prefectural leaders cannot command the forces of another prefecture's military without full approval of the governing body of the other prefecture'."
Peters: "So, what should we do now?"
Midus: "Well, with our own military still being rebuilt, we're in no position to launch a strike on Okremafort by ourselves. We'd be lucky to withstand an attack on Mount Sabretooth. The only option we have left is to appeal to Jansod. With a military as strong as his, I'm sure he could spare a detachment or two to help protect the rest of us."
Peters: "With all due respect, your majesty, are you sure that's a wise course of action? I mean, the whole reason why the enemy is preparing to strike is because the United Prefectures intends to annex Ghon-Ki prefecture. Given what we've seen of their activity, it's obvious the enemy is aware of what we're doing here. If they find out that we're asking the Prefect of Ghon-Ki for help, that could anger them more... and God only knows what will happen!"
Midus: "Well, what other choice do we have? With everything that has happened in the past few days, we would be fools not to act. There is obviously more going on than anyone here is aware of... what with the Divine Wind turning down our request, then being spotted in Myria trying to find passage across the sea. He's up to something... and he's too smart and resourceful to be trusted, given the circumstances. I'm afraid to think of what else could be happening right under our very noses. I want you to start drafting a request to be sent to Premier Jansod, asking for his military assistance... and I want this request to be delivered to him in the morning."
Peters: "Yes, your majesty."
With that, the Defense Minister excused himself and went to write a letter to the Prefectural Leader of Ghon-Ki, while King Midus pulls a bottle of yellow bar-shaped pills out of his desk and takes one. It's about 1:00 AM.
